As a playwright, Macheala’s work often explores themes of family and intergenerational dynamics. Her most recent play, Descent, tells the story of a Nigerian-American family grappling with issues of historical and familial responsibility when an outsider’s presence forces them to confront their ancestry. Descent was a Finalist for the 2025 Princess Grace Playwriting Fellowship at New Dramatists and a Semi-Finalist for the 2025 National Playwrights Conference at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center.
